July 1 isn't just a price increase.
Four changes landed at once.

Prices go up for E3 and E5 plans. But price is only one of four things changing on July 1:

• Unassigned licenses auto-renew at the new, higher rates. Microsoft won't reclaim them.
• Departed and disabled accounts still hold E3 and E5 licenses until manually removed.
• Storage is moving to pay-as-you-go billing. Unmanaged SharePoint usage will show up on invoices.

The price increase makes the math simpler: waste that was overlooked now costs more.
