Having multiple conversations going on with various colleagues can sometimes get overwhelming in Microsoft Teams. Thankfully, there is a capability in Microsoft Teams to save conversations and messages to a central location so you can access them quickly when you need them.
This feature is called ‘bookmarking’ or ‘saving conversations’ in Microsoft Teams. People use these two names interchangeably but whatever you call it, it is very quick and easy and can help ensure that you organize all your important conversations quickly and easily.
Microsoft Teams: Save Conversations
For example, if you wanted to save the message below, simply hover to the right of the conversation, click on the ellipsis and select ‘Save this message’ as seen below.
Once you have clicked on ‘Save this Message’ you will see a confirmation on the top right-hand side of teams underneath your profile:
Accessing your saved message in Microsoft Teams
To access your saved messages you have two options:
Click on your profile in the top right and choose Saved
Simply click on the top right-hand side of Microsoft Teams where your profile image is and choose the ‘Saved’ item.
Use the “/saved” command from the command bar
The command bar also gives you the option to view your saved items by using the “/saved” command.
Seeing saved messages in Microsoft Teams
Now that you have accessed your saved messages, you will see them in a list. Messages are shown in the order that you saved them with the most recent on top. Both your public conversations from Microsoft Teams Channels as well as chat messages will appear in this list.
You will also see the Microsoft Team/Channel Name from public conversations and just ‘Chat’ if the message is from a private chat. Unfortunately, it doesn’t currently show the name of who is in the chat.
When you click on a message in your list of saved conversations, you will be taken straight to that message and it will be clearly highlighted as in the example below.
Removing saved messages in Microsoft Teams
Removing saved messages in Microsoft Teams is easy and can be done in two ways.
Unsave the message from the item directly. To do this, go to the message and choose the ‘Unsave this message’ option.
Click the ‘save’ icon from the saved items list – this way is quicker, especially for bulk entries. Simply go to your saved items list and click on the little ‘save’ icon. This will un-save the messages you no longer need to quickly access.
Microsoft Teams Save Conversations & Bookmarking FAQs
Does the author of the conversation know that you saved the conversation?
No, the author does not know.
Can you categorize or change the order of saved items?
No, you cant. It’s simply a list of items that are in chronological order with the most recently saved item appearing on top.
Can I create a task from a list of saved messages
No, you can’t but it’s an interesting idea if it was tied into Planner or Microsft ToDo.
